As evidenced throughout our entire ‘Tis the Season blog series so far, the opportunity to make a difference lies in many places–and is sometimes no further than a mouse click away.
Not only has technology interconnected our world more than ever before—it’s also a driving catalyst for philanthropic spirit. For instance, Way 7 talks about how to give directly online to a cause, in an indirect way (simply by surfing the Internet!); now, Way 10 will empower you to create or sign on to the change you want to see, and give you the tools necessary to see it through.
Change.org is the world’s largest petition platform, with a mission to “empower people everywhere to create the change they want to see.” This website makes it possible for anyone to begin a petition and mobilize thousands of supporters around the world to rally behind it. The Result: Make governments and companies be held accountable and respond to individual and organizational needs, ideas, and ultimately, change.
What’s even better? It’s working.
Just a few (out of thousands) of successful past Change.org campaign victories include:
Sprint Improves its Policies to Protect Victims of Domestic Violence
“We’re working for a world where no one is powerless and where creating change is a part of everyday life.” – Change.org
What are you waiting for? Sign on to a cause you are passionate about, or start one that you believe deserves to be seen, heard and acted upon. As it has been said before, ‘be the change you wish to see in the world.’
Community is at the heart of what we do at DNA, and it always has been. To ring in this season of giving and to celebrate the organizations that continue to shape our great community, we will unveil a new way to give back every day that doesn’t necessarily involve cash.
You may already give back in one or more of the ways that we list; if you do, pat yourself on the back. If not, maybe today is the day. Our hope is that you’ll never underestimate how much of a lasting and positive impact you can make…Not only for a cause, but for yourself as well.
