Be Crafty, Creative AND Charitable!

Whether it’s Pinterest-inspired or an item you’ve created for years, making a craft for charity is an extra special way to give back that doesn’t involve cash. Not only is donating handmade items a personally rewarding way to give of your time and talents—it’s also a highly coveted form of giving for many nonprofits.Xmas8

While some charities and organizations have specific needs for items like blankets or board games, many others graciously accept any and all types of donated craft items.  If a nonprofit near and dear to your heart doesn’t have a direct need for donated crafts, selling these items and donating the proceeds in return is another great giving option.

Not crafty? Not to worry, every little bit helps. Many charities seeking donated crafts are also on the look-out for supplies as well (extra yarn, fabric, paint, etc). Even if you don’t have the time (or the talent), supplies are always necessary.

Here are a few causes that would more than appreciate your craftiness.

Pierce’s Project (regional)

Provides support and care packages for Charlotte, NC families in the NICU [Currently welcoming: custom hats, isolette quilts, & 12×12 lovie blankets]

Project Linus (national)

Provides love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or  in need, through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

Generations Group Homes (local)

Builds character and self-confidence within at-risk boys through structured activities, leadership, education and life-skills.  Do you paint, knit, crochet, draw, build things, play an instrument, have a hobby or craft you’d like to share?  GGH is open to new ideas and would love to hear from you!

Community is at the heart of what we do at DNA, and it always has been. To ring in this season of giving and to celebrate the organizations that continue to shape our great community, we will unveil a new way to give back every day that doesn’t necessarily involve cash.

You may already give back in one or more of the ways that we list; if you do, pat yourself on the back. If not, maybe today is the day. Our hope is that you’ll never underestimate how much of a lasting and positive impact you can make…Not only for a cause, but for yourself as well.
