Register for Organ Donation
During the holidays, we give gifts to show we care – and what could show you care more than the gift of life? According to Donate Life America, there are more than 115,000 people in the United States currently waiting for an organ transplant. An average of 18 people die every day while waiting for transplants in the U.S., and another name is added to the waiting list every 10 minutes.
While these facts are dismaying, there are some facts that are far more uplifting: one organ donor can save up to eight lives; that same donor can save or improve 50 more lives through tissue and eye donation, and the transplant success rate is between 80 and 90 percent. Furthermore, there is no cost to you or your family for donation.
To register to be an organ donor in your state and to learn more about this type of giving, visit DonateLife.net/register-now/.
You can also consent to being an organ/tissue donor when you apply for or renew a South Carolina driver’s license, beginner’s permit, or identification card. If you choose to donate, your identity information will be added to the South Carolina Donor Registry.
We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men.
Community is at the heart of what we do at DNA, and it always has been. To ring in this season of giving and to celebrate the organizations that continue to shape our great community, we will unveil a new way to give back every day that doesn’t necessarily involve cash.
You may already give back in one or more of the ways that we list; if you do, pat yourself on the back. If not, maybe today is the day. Our hope is that you’ll never underestimate how much of a lasting and positive impact you can make…Not only for a cause, but for yourself as well.
