The month of April is designated as DNA Month and Monday, April 25th, was National DNA Day. This holiday was created to commemorate the anniversary of the discovery of the double helix as well as the completion of the human genome project.

DNA Creative Communications joined the celebration of National DNA Day in style by participating in Jeans for Gene’s. The team wore blue jeans to work to celebrate and took a field trip to learn more about genetic research and treatment.

DNA traveled to The Shops at Greenridge where the Greenwood Genetic Center hosted a genetics education day on board the Gene Machine, a 41 foot Mobile Science Laboratory. The DNA Team toured the Gene Machine and learned about genetics as it relates to the issues of prevention, treatment and personal healthcare. Lori Bassett, of the Greenwood Genetic Center, demonstrated laboratory techniques and educated the group on the types of genetic disorders studied by the Genetic Center and the success the center has had in preventative and curative therapies.

The Gene Machine regularly travels around the state visiting high school students and teachers, providing the opportunity for hands-on simulated lab experiments. To learn more, visit
