What can you create in 24 hours? The answer: a pro bono marketing masterpiece!

To most of us, 24 hours isn’t a lot of time. We live it each day and one hour seems to fly by just as fast as the next. But, when harnessed efficiently, 24 hours can be just enough time to make an impact in a meaningful way. Last month, the DNA Creative Communications team dedicated 24 hours of our time to make a difference in the community by helping one local nonprofit organization.

DNA is no stranger to nonprofits and the unique communications challenges they often encounter. Aside from our day-to-day work with a variety of organizations, we also host many community giving and nonprofit initiatives each year, such as our previous annual Live Here Give Here campaign and our Shine the Light Nonprofit Forums. Of all our endeavors, CreateAthon is by far the most challenging – yet exciting! – pro bono program we take part in, thanks to the demanding deadline.

CreateAthon is a 24-hour, work-around-the-clock creative blitz during which communications firms across the world provide marketing and communications services to nonprofits on a pro bono basis. Since the program’s creation in 1998, over 99 agencies have participated in the CreateAthon network in their respective markets, delivering $16 million worth of services to more than 1,300 nonprofits.

As veteran CreateAthon participants in our second year, we’ve gotten pretty good at practicing our short order cooking skills – serving up fresh and flavorful marketing and public relations projects to Upstate nonprofits in a short time frame. This year, about a hundred cups of coffee and 24 hours later, one local organization has new tools to help boost its impact and expand its efforts in our community.

DNA selected Little Steps as the beneficiary of our CreateAthon services for 2014. Founded in 2004, Little Steps is a nonprofit organization in the Upstate that offers guidance and support to young parents to provide them with the skills and resources needed to grow healthy, positive families. Through valuable parenting and mentoring programs, the organization strives to create self-sufficient parents to ensure a successful future for themselves, their children and our community.

On October 23, the DNA team flashed back to our college days and pulled an all-nighter for CreateAthon. To help support the mission and efforts of Little Steps, we created new messaging and marketing tools for the organization, including a tagline, FAQs, elevator pitch, boilerplate and press release template, and trailer wrap design. After some much deserved sleep, we presented our work to the client amidst rave reviews:

“We appreciate how the DNA Creative Communications team went in-depth to learn about all aspects of Little Steps. It is so important that people understand what we do and how our work impacts the community. The new messaging we received encompasses the significance of our work and makes it relatable to our clients and supporters. CreateAthon gave us an opportunity we may not have had otherwise, and we appreciate all of their hard work and creativity!”

– Mandy Black, Little Steps Founder & Executive Director

At DNA, our team members have a passion to help the community by providing inspirational marketing and public relations services to nonprofits. With a second year in our books, we’re thankful to have had the opportunity to help another valuable Upstate organization make a difference through CreateAthon.
