Debbie Nelson of Debbie Nelson & Associates, LLC (DNA) gave a presentation to the South Carolina Special Purpose District (SPD) Association. There are more than 500 Special Purpose Districts providing water, sewer, fire, recreation, health, trash collection, natural gas and airport services. The goals of the SPD Association are achieved through training programs, seminars, workshops, public relations and as a provider of service to local SPDs.

Nelson’s presentation addressed effective communication strategies for SPDs as well as for the Association as a whole. The presentation focused on ways to strengthen organizational identity, build stakeholder confidence, establish strong media relationships, communicate with key stakeholders, provide educational opportunities and tools, and develop an annual communications plan.
